Assistant Manager, Claims - Liability

We are seeking a responsible, detail-oriented, and proactive Assistant Manager, Claims - Liability to manage and support the handling of Liability claims portfolios. The role is responsible for ensuring claims are managed promptly, fairly, and professionally in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and service standards, while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high customer satisfaction.

The key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and handle Liability claims portfolios, ensuring timely, fair, and compliant claims administration and settlement.
  • Liaise with TPAs, brokers, reinsurers, solicitors, clients, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective claims resolution and achieve timely settlements.
  • Review and recommend claims decisions, reserve adequacy, and claim payments within delegated authority, and escalate cases exceeding authority limits for approval.
  • Manage correspondence, inquiries, and complaints, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
  • Prepare and submit claims, management, regulatory, bordereaux, statistical, and ad hoc reports accurately and within stipulated timelines.
  • Monitor claims trends, reserve adequacy, and outstanding claims, escalating adverse developments and areas of concern to the HOD/Section Head.
  • Ensure timely notification and updates to reinsurers, including accurate reserve allocation and compliance with treaty, facultative, and fronting arrangement requirements.
  • Support the coaching and development of junior team members to ensure compliance with Company Claims Service Standards, regulatory requirements, and BNM guidelines.
  • Support the HOD/Section Head in the effective management and smooth operation of the Claims function.
  • Identify and escalate issues relating to policy coverage, claims handling, or system functionality, and coordinate with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain high service standards and customer satisfaction through professional, fair, and proactive claims management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in claims processes, workflows, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

Job Specification

  • Degree in Insurance, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII or AAII will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of claims experience, with strong exposure to Liability claims handling.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with high initiative and the ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
