Role

The Assistant Manager, Retail Training is responsible for driving the execution and quality of learning and development initiatives across U Mobile Experience Centre (UMEC) retail stores nationwide. Reporting to the Retail Training Manager, the role translates the overall retail learning strategy into effective training programmes, staff development initiatives, field coaching interventions and leadership development activities. These initiatives support consistent sales performance, customer experience and operational standards across the nationwide retail network. The role also oversees the development of learning content and digital training materials, supports training operations and analytics, and collaborates with Retail Operations, GTM, Merchandising, HR, and external training partners to identify capability gaps and implement effective learning solutions. Through consistent training execution and continuous improvement, the role helps build a high-performing retail workforce that meets evolving business needs.

The Day-To-Day Activities

Nationwide Training Execution

  • Drive the execution of assigned retail training plans across UMEC nationwide, in alignment with the direction and learning strategy established by the Retail Training Manager.
  • Ensure training programmes are delivered consistently and effectively across all regions to support business objectives, retail standards and operational requirements.
  • Design, develop and facilitate retail training programmes covering product knowledge, sales campaigns, systems, operational processes, customer service and compliance for frontline retail employees, Branch Managers, Assistant Branch Managers and relevant support teams.
  • Independently lead assigned training projects from planning and content development through implementation, monitoring and post-training evaluation.
  • Conduct classroom, virtual and on-site training sessions to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and practical workplace application.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous enhancement of onboarding programmes, role-based learning pathways and refresher training initiatives.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, participant feedback, field observations and business performance data, and recommend appropriate improvements.

Retail Capability Development Programmes

  • Drive the nationwide rollout and execution of retail capability development programmes in alignment with the learning strategy established by the Retail Training Manager.
  • Collaborate with external training providers to design and deliver capability-building programmes aligned with identified business priorities.
  • Coordinate assigned vendor-led projects, including training schedules, timelines, content reviews, participant arrangements and programme implementation.
  • Partner with training vendors and Retail Operations to identify competency gaps and recommend suitable learning solutions for Retail Consultants, Senior Retail Consultants, Assistant Branch Managers and Branch Managers.
  • Monitor programme effectiveness through participant feedback, competency assessments and relevant business performance indicators.
  • Work with external training providers and internal stakeholders to continuously improve programme content, delivery and overall effectiveness.

Field Coaching and Leadership Development

  • Design and enhance on-site coaching frameworks and field-visit templates to strengthen sales execution, customer service standards and operational excellence across the nationwide retail network.
  • Conduct field visits and provide coaching support to address capability and performance gaps at employee, branch or regional level.
  • Provide developmental support to Area Managers and Branch Managers to strengthen their leadership capability, coaching effectiveness and team development practices.
  • Support capability interventions for underperforming employees and branches by identifying development needs and recommending targeted improvement plans.
  • Provide professional guidance and support to Training Executives to promote consistent and high-quality training delivery.
  • Support the onboarding, mentoring and development of new Retail Training team members through knowledge sharing, coaching and the provision of relevant learning tools and resources.

Learning Content and Digital Media

  • Promote a continuous learning culture across the retail network by developing engaging digital learning experiences and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Design, develop and maintain learning materials, including presentation decks, facilitator guides, participant handbooks, e-learning modules, microlearning content, job aids and infographics.
  • Produce and edit training videos, digital learning content and multimedia resources using CapCut, Canva or similar content-creation platforms.
  • Develop bite-sized learning content to support internal communications, digital learning platforms and just-in-time learning requirements.
  • Review learning materials to ensure alignment with corporate branding, learning standards and business requirements before deployment by Training Executives or external training providers.
  • Maintain the accuracy and relevance of learning content by incorporating business, product, system and operational updates.

Performance Improvement & Training Analytics

  • Support the Retail Training Manager in conducting the annual Training Needs Analysis by identifying competency gaps through business performance reviews, operational audits, stakeholder feedback and relevant data.
  • Analyse training KPIs, learning effectiveness, competency-assessment results and retail operational performance to identify trends, gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend targeted training interventions and capability development initiatives to improve retail performance.
  • Monitor the impact of training initiatives on sales performance, customer experience, operational compliance and employee competency across the retail network.
  • Prepare regular training reports, insights and recommendations for the Retail Training Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain appropriate training records, programme reports and evaluation data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

About You

  1. Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, or equivalent professional qualification.
  2. Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in training, learning and development, retail operations, or retail sales.
  3. Experience delivering classroom training, facilitating workshops, or coaching retail teams is highly preferred.
  4. Strong presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Ability to develop engaging learning materials and digital training content using Microsoft PowerPoint and other content creation tools.
  6. Knowledge of adult learning principles, training methodologies, and competency development will be an added advantage.
  7. Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives simultaneously.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  9. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, or digital content creation tools is an added advantage.
  10. Willing to travel nationwide and work occasional weekends when required to support training programs.
