Backend Engineer, SRA - Promotion (2027 Graduate)

Team Description

The SRA Promotion team develops scalable, data-driven promotion systems that drive marketplace growth and enhance user experience. By leveraging large-scale user, item, campaign, and transaction data, the team applies advanced AI technologies—including recommender systems, LLM-based agents, causal inference, reinforcement learning, and operations research—to deliver more personalized, efficient, and measurable marketing campaigns.

Job Description

• Design and build high-performance backend services and distributed systems that power personalized vouchers, promotions, and campaign experiences across Shopee’s key product surfaces.
• Partner closely with Product, Business, Data Science, Ads, Search, and Recommendation teams to translate marketplace growth opportunities into reliable, scalable, and production-ready engineering solutions.
• Productionize machine learning and optimization capabilities by integrating model serving, experimentation, and decisioning logic into low-latency online systems.
• Apply advanced AI technologies, including LLMs, and AI agents, to improve the efficiency, quality, and automation of e-commerce campaign operations.
• Develop core capabilities for personalized recommendations, promotion and voucher optimization, campaign budget planning, and product demand forecasting.
• Ensure production reliability through resilient API design, caching, asynchronous processing, graceful degradation, observability, and continuous performance optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer networks, and computer systems.
• Strong programming skills in Go and/or Python, with familiarity with Linux development environments.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Interest in distributed systems, high-concurrency architectures, microservices, and scalable backend design.
• Self-motivated, eager to learn, and driven to solve challenging technical problems with measurable business impact.
• (Good-to-have) Experience or coursework in backend frameworks, distributed data processing, recommender systems, search or ads systems, machine learning platforms.
