About Global Payment The Global Payment team of ByteDance provides payment solutions - including payment acquisitions, disbursements, transaction monitoring, payment method management, foreign exchange conversion, accounting, reconciliations, and so on to ensure that our users have a smooth and secure payment experience on ByteDance platforms including TikTok.
We are looking for backend engineers who are passionate about building AI-driven infrastructure as well as strengthening system architecture, scalability and stability. This role focuses on designing and operating robust backend foundations that enable intelligent systems, improve service resilience, and support the long-term evolution of large-scale platforms.
You will work on core backend systems that power AI capabilities in production, including platform architecture, service reliability, performance optimization, observability, and automation. The ideal candidate is committed to solving hard engineering problems and building infrastructure that is both technically strong and operationally dependable.
You will partner closely with payment product teams, risk, compliance, finance, SRE, and global engineering teams to ensure payment services are secure, resilient, performant, and operationally excellent across markets.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and optimize backend systems uplift system architecture, fault tolerance and scalability across critical services, empowering the AI application to facilitate both efficiency and effectiveness.
- Build foundational capabilities for high-availability services, distributed scheduling, data processing, and platform automation, including infrastructure to enhance monitoring, observability, alerting, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Analyze production incidents and new business features to plan long-term architectural improvements.
- Take shift to handle critical production technical faults that impact critical payment system service.
- Mentor interns on the related subject where applicable.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification(s):
- Bachelor's degree or above in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Software Engineering
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as GO, JAVA, C++, or Python
- Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and databases
- Strong problem-solving ability and ownership mindset, and be able to write and present clearly
- Good cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualification(s):
- Experience in AI infrastructure, machine learning platforms and intelligent systems engineering
- Experience in payments, fintech, transaction platforms, banking integrations, or financial infrastructure
- Experience building and operating distributed systems in production environments
- Experience with backend architecture, service reliability, and performance optimization
- Experience improving system reliability, availability, observability, and operational excellence
- Understanding of SRE practices, incident management, and disaster recovery design
