RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position is for Office of Integrated Information Technology Services (IITS).
- Lead in-house database implementation (both in cloud and on-premise).
- Manage small to medium-scale projects and vendors (e.g. AWS and Microsoft). Responsible for preparing tender specifications, evaluation and implementation of the outsourced systems.
- Participate in database (DB), database firewall (DB) and data platform related matters or projects, including but not limited to:
- Upgrades & patches
- Job scheduling and monitoring
- Performance monitoring and tuning
- Security management and integrity checks
- Space monitoring
- Backup and Recovery
- Disaster Recovery
- Perform software and tools administration (e.g. SQL Management Studio, SQL Server SSIS, PeopleSoft Data Mover, SAP GUI and System).
- Review and maintain DB related policies, guidelines and standards.
- Provide technical assistance, day-to-day operational support for existing DBs.
- Provide documentation according to Project Development Methodology.
- Conduct post implementation reviews to gather user feedback and schedule for enhancements and modifications.
- Coordinate the design, release and deployment of systems with cross-functional team dependencies and impact to the infrastructure.
- Evaluate software package / productivity tools and make recommendations to Principal Database Administrator and supervisor.
- Participate in Enterprise Database System Planning (i.e. database infrastructure design, planning and implementation).
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree / Diploma in Computer Science or IT
- For Senior DBA – Candidate with 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience in enterprise cloud and on-premise database and data platform implementation and administration.
- For DBA – Candidate with less than 2 years of relevant work experience in enterprise cloud and on-premise database and data platform implementation and administration.
- Well versed in both cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure) and on-premises enterprise database, database firewall, data platform technologies, configuration and administration.
- Proficient in database installation, upgrade, maintenance, performance tuning and troubleshooting of MS SQL Server and / or MYSQL.
- Experience in MS SQL Server is strongly preferred.
- Good knowledge of Windows, database backup and recovery (Symantec NetBackup), cluster-failover technologies (Microsoft Cluster, SQL Server AlwaysOn).
- Experience in Database Firewall or SAP Basis administration will be advantageous.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
