We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Director, Business Development.
Role Purpose
- The jobholder reports directly to the MD & Head – Banking, International Markets, Asia and support in driving sustainable business growth across the business
- This role is tasked with managing, overseeing and driving Origination and Business Development activities, Corridors enagement, and Collabrative initiatives
- The scope of the role covers all segments of Banking in International Markets (Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Mauritius) as well as Global Network Banking in Scale Markets (Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia)
Key responsibilities
- Strategy: Assist the MD & Head – Banking, International Markets, Asia with designing and executing business growth strategy, ensuring alignment with the business’ vision
- Business development and pipeline management: Collaborate with business heads to assess deal pipeline, revenue and track KPIs to evaluate opportunities. Serve as conduit for Regional and Group initiatives
- Cross function collaboration: Orchestrate deal origination, streamline collaboration and interface with product partners to drive cross-sale. Act as a strategic bridge between front office relationship managers, product heads, compliance and risk team
- Cross border collaboration: Facilitate inbound and outbound business flows by collaborating with HSBC global offices
- Market intelligence: Conduct deep-dive analysis on competitior positioning, regulatory shifts and emerging trends in the market. Provide insight to CIB’s senior management to enable decision making.
- Represent the MD & Head – Banking, International Markets, Asia in forums and meetings as and when required
Major Challenges
- Market Complexity: Navigating the nuances and complexity across different geography
- Dynamic regulatory landscape: Balancing growth targets while maintaining legal and risk compliance set by the regulators
- Stakeholder management: Exceptional interpersonal skills are required to own and manage relationship with different senior stakeholders
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
- Strategic thinking: Ability to think broadly and strategically whilst exercising a high level of business acumen and commercial judgment
- Business analytics: Strong analytical background with proven ability to process high volumes of complex information and contextualize data into business activities, themes, and valid recommendations
- Product knowledge: Excellent fundamentals across client coverage, credit & lending transactions, capital financing, and familiarity with full range of commercial banking products.
- Understanding of local environment in Asia, with ability to bring fresh / different perspective
- Prior experience in Relationship Management and Portfolio Management
- Leadership skills: Ability to lead and influence senior management and juniors, experience in team building and managing a wide range of projects. Strong influencing, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
- Stakeholder management: Experience in building strong stakeholder relationships at all levels, and in managing a wide range of internal stakeholder relationships. Ability to build a strong external profile, and use speaking engagements to boost HSBC’s profile
- Communication: Excellent communication and influencing skills with all levels of staff and management in a culturally diverse environment
- Experience of driving strategic change in a matrix environment, whilst managing risk considerations
