Role Purpose:
The Director, Portfolio Management will lead the enterprise-wide change to establish a stronger portfolio management capability across DHL Express IT. The role is accountable for ensuring the visibility, governance, decision processes, methods, tools, and organizational capability needed to manage change and IT investments as an integrated enterprise portfolio.
This position is responsible for ensuring that senior management have the visibility of the change and IT portfolios to make informed decisions, including prioritization based on value to the business. Additionally, the role ensures that the processes and tools are in place to allow changes to be tracked through their lifecycle from idea through to implementation, while supporting both execution teams and executive-level decision-making.
How will you contribute to the success of DHL?
Establish the Enterprise Portfolio Management Capability
- Define the target portfolio management capability and lead the roadmap to establish it across DHL Express IT.
- Connect strategy, investment decisions, governance, data, methods, tools, roles, and behaviors into a coherent enterprise portfolio management approach.
Portfolio Visibility & Prioritization
- Establish end-to-end visibility of the change and IT portfolios, from idea and investment choice through delivery and value realization.
- Develop decision-oriented dashboards, insights, and portfolio reviews that enable senior management to resolve trade-offs across strategic fit, value, capacity, dependencies, and risk.
- Facilitate cross-functional review and prioritization forums to align initiatives with strategic objectives and resource availability.
Governance & Oversight
- Enforce governance processes for IT project and product portfolios, to ensure alignment with business strategy and compliance with standards.
- Support executive decision-making through structured portfolio reviews and scenario planning.
Community Leadership
- Develop and lead the Express IT PMO community, fostering collaboration, capability development, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a thought leader, mentor and coach to PMO professionals across the organization.
Methods, Standards & Tools Management
- Own the product management of portfolio management tools and platforms.
- Define and evolve standards, templates, and methodologies to support consistent portfolio execution.
Enablement & Support
- Design and deliver training programs on portfolio management tools, methods, and techniques.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to stakeholders involved in portfolio management activities.
- Champion adoption and continuous improvement of portfolio management practices across the organization.
Do you have what it takes?
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Change, Strategy, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA will be advantageous.
- Professional background and qualifications in management consulting, portfolio management, project management, or agile delivery are advantageous. Examples include
- MoP® (Management of Portfolios)
- PMI PfMP® (Portfolio Management Professional)
- PMI PMP®
- PRINCE2®
- SAFe®
- ITIL®
- Preferably 10 years of progressive experience in:
- Portfolio management, program management, or enterprise PMO leadership
- Leading cross-functional prioritization and governance processes
- Managing enterprise-level change portfolios in complex, matrixed organizations
- Preferably 5+ years in a senior leadership or consulting leadership role, with:
- Direct or matrixed team leadership
- Executive stakeholder engagement
- Ownership of portfolio management tools and methods
- Demonstrated experience in the following:
- Implementing or evolving portfolio management frameworks.
- Leading communities of practice or capability-building initiatives.
- Managing enterprise PMO and project management tools (e.g., Planview, Jira).
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken), with strong executive communication, storytelling, workshop design, and presentation skills.
