Job Purpose

The Technical Engineer – Solar is responsible for providing technical support for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, from initial site assessment and system design through installation, testing, commissioning, and after-sales support. The role works closely with Sales, Project, Operations, contractors, suppliers, and customers to ensure solar solutions are technically feasible, compliant, cost-effective, and delivered according to project requirements and applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Solar PV System Design & Technical Assessment

  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments to determine the feasibility and requirements of solar PV installations.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed solar PV system designs based on customer requirements, site conditions, energy consumption, and project specifications.
  • Prepare system layouts, single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical designs, equipment specifications, and other relevant technical drawings.
  • Perform system sizing, energy yield calculations, performance analysis, and technical evaluations.
  • Select suitable solar PV modules, inverters, mounting systems, cables, protection devices, and other balance-of-system components.
  • Review technical specifications and recommend appropriate solutions to optimise system performance and cost efficiency.

2. Technical Support for Sales & Business Development

  • Provide technical support to the Sales team during customer discussions, site assessments, proposal preparation, and tender submissions.
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals, system configurations, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review customer requirements and recommend appropriate solar solutions based on technical feasibility and operational needs.
  • Attend technical presentations, meetings, and discussions with customers when required.
  • Respond to technical queries from customers and internal stakeholders.

3. Project & Installation Support

  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project implementation and installation stages.
  • Review installation drawings, method statements, equipment specifications, and technical submissions.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and relevant stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure installation works comply with approved designs, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Identify technical issues during project implementation and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support project teams in resolving site constraints, design changes, and installation-related issues.

4. Testing, Commissioning & Troubleshooting

  • Support testing and commissioning activities for completed solar PV systems.
  • Verify system functionality and performance against approved designs and project requirements.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and technical investigations for system faults, underperformance, equipment failures, or operational issues.
  • Analyse system monitoring data and recommend corrective or preventive actions where necessary.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and after-sales activities when required.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve solar system design, installation methodology, system performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Keep updated on emerging renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging, and related energy solutions.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with internal teams.
  • Perform any other technical or project-related duties assigned by the immediate superior or Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Registration with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as a Graduate Engineer would be an added advantage
  • Preferably 2–5 years of relevant working experience in solar PV, renewable energy, electrical engineering, or related technical/project environments, however fresh graduates are welcome to apply
  • Experience in commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects would be an added advantage.
  • Fresh graduates with strong technical knowledge and relevant internship/project exposure may also be considered for a junior position.
  • Good understanding of solar PV system design, electrical systems, and renewable energy concepts.
  • Knowledge of PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, electrical protection systems, and related solar components.
