Environmental Officer - Real Estate

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits, and approval conditions.
- Coordinate environmental requirements for property development, construction, and infrastructure projects.
- Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits at project sites, identifying potential environmental risks and non-compliance.
- Monitor issues such as air quality, water quality, noise, vibration, soil erosion, sedimentation, waste management, and pollution prevention.
- Ensure proper implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Environmental Monitoring Plans, and mitigation measures.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, authorities, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Review environmental reports, monitoring results, method statements, and contractors' environmental submissions.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure appropriate controls are implemented to minimise environmental impacts.
- Oversee proper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of scheduled/hazardous waste and general construction waste.
- Support environmental impact assessments, environmental approvals, permits, and regulatory submissions where required.
- Investigate environmental incidents, complaints, and non-compliance issues, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain proper environmental records, registers, permits, inspection reports, monitoring data, and documentation.
- Prepare regular environmental performance reports for management.
- Conduct environmental awareness briefings and training for employees, contractors, and site personnel.
- Support sustainability initiatives, including resource efficiency, energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and green building practices.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and response for environmental incidents such as spills, pollution, or uncontrolled discharges.
- Keep abreast of changes in environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Perform other environmental and sustainability-related duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in real estate development, construction, property, infrastructure, or environmental consultancy is preferred.
- Good knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and environmental management practices.
- Experience in conducting site inspections, environmental monitoring, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors, authorities, and project teams.
- Good report-writing, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and undertake regular site visits.
- Professional environmental qualifications or relevant certifications would be an advantage.
- Candidates must be willing to work in Kulai, Johor and undertake site visits as required.
