Job Responsibilities:
- Advisory
Giving accurate and timely advice to all departments, business functions and support function units of the Bank and the Group within the time line set out in the internal KPI or by the internal customer.
Being part of the working groups or steering committee on any special projects or corporate exercises undertaken by the Bank or the Group and making sure all legal issues are appropriately dealt with.
- Vetting
Vetting documents and providing advice on any legal issues arising from the documents being vetted within the time line set out in the internal KPI.
- Drafting and negotiating
Drafting and negotiating ( where required), letter of offers letters, confirmations, undertakings, loan or financing documents, commercial agreements and contracts relating to SME Plus/ Commercial Banking matters, papers to the Board and EXCO, internal policies and memorandums on latest developments of laws within the time line specified in the KPI.
Drafting of commercial contracts, forms and other documents to reduce referrals to solicitors on cost and time saving measures for various stakeholders of the Bank.
- Projects
Advisory, vetting and drafting of all matters pertaining to strategic initiatives (process improvement and business growth projects funding activities etc) the Bank is involved in from time to time in accordance with time lines set by the project owners
Qualification & Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree or equivalent recognised legal qualification.
- Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya (or equivalent qualification).
- Minimum 6-10 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience.
- Prior practising experience in a recognised law firm with exposure to Banking & Finance matters.
- Experience in advising on, drafting, reviewing, negotiatingand financing structures and security documentation for various financing products.
- Strong working knowledge of banking and financing documentation relating to:
- Corporate Banking
- Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) financing
- Retail Banking financing
- Familiarity with lending structures, security arrangements and perfection requirements.
- Experience in managing legal documentation for financing transactions and liaising with external solicitors and internal stakeholders.
- Strong legal drafting, analytical and negotiation skills.
- Ability to provide practical legal advice while balancing legal risk and business objectives.
