Job Summary
The Manager, Compliance is a senior individual contributor who serves as a key deputy to the Director, Compliance. The role leads the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of the company’s global corporate compliance programme, with particular emphasis on compliance risk assessment, policy and procedure development, governance reporting, and oversight of core compliance processes.
Working independently and collaboratively across jurisdictions and business functions, the Manager translates regulatory and ethical requirements into practical controls and helps foster a culture of integrity across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Risk Assessment: Spearhead global compliance risk assessments by working with subject-matter experts and business units to identify, evaluate and prioritise compliance risks. Develop risk methodologies, dashboards and heat maps, track mitigation actions, and prepare clear updates for senior management, the Risk Committee and the Board.
- Policies and Procedures: Lead the review, drafting, creation, implementation and ongoing maintenance of compliance policies, procedures and desk instructions. Provide practical guidance to business teams and monitor key policy areas, including conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality, related-party transactions, personal account dealing and insider trading.
- Compliance Registers and Controls: Establish and oversee key compliance registers, including conflicts of interest, related-party transactions, and gifts and hospitality. Ensure declarations are assessed, decisions and conditions are documented, periodic reviews are completed, and issues are escalated and resolved appropriately.
- Screening and Monitoring Oversight: Oversee risk-based screening and ongoing monitoring of vendors, customers and other third parties in collaboration with onboarding teams. Review higher-risk findings, adverse information, sanctions and politically exposed person matches, determine appropriate risk treatment, and ensure monitoring requirements are documented and completed.
- Regulatory and Requirements Monitoring: Monitor and interpret emerging local and international laws, regulations and standards affecting the business. Assess their impact and partner with relevant functions to implement requirements across the company’s jurisdictions.
- Training and Advisory: Develop and deliver practical compliance training for employees and management. Advise stakeholders on the application of policies and coordinate recurring training, attestations, and completion tracking.
- Incident Management and Investigations: Lead or support investigations into suspected compliance breaches and whistleblower reports. Maintain appropriate audit trails, conduct root-cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, track remediation and liaise with relevant authorities when required.
- Programme Development and Collaboration: Support the Director, Compliance in building a scalable global compliance function. Work closely with Legal, Risk, Finance, Procurement, onboarding teams and other stakeholders, while providing guidance to colleagues responsible for day-to-day compliance operations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: A recognised bachelor’s degree in law, business, finance, audit, risk management or a related field. A law degree may be helpful for regulatory interpretation and drafting but is not required.
- Experience: Approximately 8–12 years of progressive experience in core corporate compliance, compliance risk, operational risk, audit or a closely related field, with demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead complex compliance work.
- Risk Assessment: Substantial hands-on experience designing, conducting, and reporting compliance risk assessments. Experience translating assessments into dashboards, heat maps, action plans and senior governance reporting is strongly preferred.
- Policy and Governance: Strong experience drafting policies and procedures and communicating complex requirements in clear, precise English. Experience preparing materials for senior management, risk committees or Boards is highly advantageous.
- Industry Background: Experience in banking, financial services or another highly regulated industry is preferred. Candidates from multinational, pharmaceutical, medical, manufacturing or other sectors will be considered where they can demonstrate extensive compliance risk-assessment and core compliance experience.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of corporate governance, third-party risk, sanctions and AML screening, and relevant data privacy requirements such as GDPR and PDPA. Cross-border or multi-jurisdictional experience is advantageous.
- Capabilities: Excellent analytical judgement, problem-solving, stakeholder management, writing and communication skills. Highly organised, ethical and discreet, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and handle sensitive information.
- Ways of Working: A responsible, driven and collaborative team player who can work with limited supervision, take ownership of outcomes and contribute effectively in a growing function.
Added Advantage
- Practical experience using artificial intelligence to improve compliance processes, analysis or reporting. Experience with agentic AI capabilities would be a significant advantage but is not a mandatory requirement.
