MANAGER, GROUP LEGAL

Job Responsibilities:
- Support the Project Development Section in varied legal areas, covering research, dispute resolution and document preparation for litigation and advisory services relating to project development, tenancies, construction-related matters and ad hoc property conveyancing.
- Manage and monitor all litigation matters of the Setia Group related to project development and construction in Courts and Tribunals, including dispute resolution and legal advisory work, reviewing cause papers and liaising with external solicitors while providing regular updates on litigation matters to Senior Management.
- Manage exposure of the Setia Group’s or Business Unit’s risks and enhance commercial and other interests in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Manage and coordinate with external solicitors and other party advisors on Setia Group Legal’s, Business Units’ or Setia Group matters.
- Draft, review, advise and/or negotiate agreements and contracts in relation to project management and project development activities, including sales and purchase agreements for land/project development, tenancies and/or leases, settlement agreements and other legal documents for various requirements of the Setia Group.
- Research legal cases, updates and legislation to keep abreast of applicable laws relating to the Setia Group’s business and operations and advise on the impact, including necessary compliance due to such changes or updates.
- Report to and support the General Manager, Project Services to ensure all duties assigned and undertaken are carried out in accordance with applicable laws/regulations and Setia Group’s policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties and assignments as may be instructed from time to time.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) / Degree in Law.
- CLP / Called to the Malaysian Bar.
- Minimum 8 years of experience with a good foundation in litigation, including court, arbitration, mediation and tribunals.
- Experience and knowledge in project development (SPA / tenancies / leases / banking), construction, procurement and contracts (PAM and IEM contracts) would be an advantage.
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with internal stakeholders.
- Positive disposition, willingness to learn and resourceful.
- Possesses strong analytical mind, proactive with strong initiative in approaching issues and achieving resolutions.
- Ability to work independently and also collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
- Good written, oral communication and drafting skills.
- Quality-focused and attention to detail.
- Sound knowledge and background on applicable laws relating to property development (strata / housing / commercial), land, construction and company matters.
- Have handled and completed litigation and/or conveyancing matters.
