Job Summary
The Manager, Training & Development supports the Head, Crewing, in driving training, competency and workforce development initiatives across the diverse POSH offshore fleet. Partnering closely with Crewing, Operations and key stakeholders, the role oversees training planning, competency tracking, compliance monitoring, training partnerships, and ensures that training requirements are effectively identified, delivered and recorded and crew are competent and trained adequately for vessels to perform safe and efficiently. The role also supports continuous learning programs, technical development and professional growth for both sea-going and shore-based personnel, ensuring that learning initiatives are aligned with operational requirements and the Company’s growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Training Compliance & Competency Management
- Develop, maintain and periodically review training and competency matrices
- Monitor compliance with mandatory training and certification requirements, including STCW, ISM Code, MLC2006, IMCA, OPITO, flag state, client, project-specific, and company requirements
- Identify competency gaps and recommend appropriate training interventions to support operational readiness
- Training Planning & Coordination
- Partner with Crewing and BU to identify training requirements based on crew deployment plans, performance assessments, project requirements, and operational needs
- Coordinate training schedules and attendance in alignment with crew rotations, mobilisation plans, and vessel availability, ensuring zero delays in deployment or client vetting approvals
- Ensure training activities are effectively planned, delivered, recorded, and evaluated
- Support the implementation of fleet-wide training and competency development initiatives
- Vendor & Training Partner Management
- Identify, evaluate, audit and manage relationships with training providers, maritime academies and e-learning partners, ensuring compliance with IMCA and Nautical Institute guidelines.
- Negotiate commercial and contractual terms with training providers to achieve cost-effective and quality training outcomes
- Collaborate closely with BU to review training curricula and learning content to ensure relevance, quality, and alignment with operational and business requirements
- Monitor training provider performance and drive continuous improvement in training delivery and outcomes
- Formulate and optimise annual fleet training budget, prioritizing high-value technical certifications
- Talent & Crew Development
- Analyse training and development needs arising from performance appraisals, competency assessments, career progression plans, and succession planning initiatives
- Support the development of structured learning pathways for junior officers, cadets, and high-potential seafarers
- Oversee mentorship and competency signoffs for crew transitioning to higher specification vessels / shore assignment
- Coordinate programs aimed at strengthening leadership, supervisory, technical, and behavioural competencies across the fleet
- Safety Awareness & Learning Reinforcement
- Manage pre-joining/mobilisation and post-joining/mobilisation briefings to reinforce company policies, safety expectations, operational requirements, and key organisational messages
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence across the offshore workforce
- Shore-Based L&D & Project Support
- Assist in identifying learning solutions that support business growth, organisational capability, and workforce development objectives
- Monitor and analyse learning effectiveness, training utilisation, budget performance, and development outcomes
- Support training, crewing, and organisational development projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, Training
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance training governance, competency management, and learning effectiveness
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years in offshore maritime sector, with at least 3 years in shore-based T&D role and exposure to regulated/compliance-driven training environments
- Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning delivery
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Education, or related field; training/facilitation certification an advantage
