The role requires specialized depth and breadth of expertise in Commercial, combined with a proactive approach to leveraging emerging technologies, digital tools, and AI-enabled solutions to enhance decision-making, generate business insights, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the quality and competitiveness of commercial proposals and bid submissions.

Job Overview:

The Principal Commercial Specialist interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices. They are responsible for solving complex commercial challenges and working independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Commercial Specialist may lead functional teams and is recognized as a subject matter expert within the Commercial Function. In addition to deep commercial expertise, the role requires a commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and digital transformation. The successful candidate will proactively adopt and utilize modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytics, and digital collaboration tools, to improve commercial outcomes, generate actionable insights, strengthen competitive positioning, and enhance the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of bid submissions and commercial deliverables. The individual must possess in-depth expertise in Commercial and broad knowledge of the Commercial Discipline while actively promoting data-driven and technology-enabled decision-making across the business.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of key prospects, markets, and industry trends
  • Support bid strategy development, execution, and contract negotiations.
  • Analyze market, competitor, and commercial data to support business growth
  • Assess commercial opportunities and contribute to proposal development and contract awards
  • Support Commercial Leadership with executive presentations and gate reviews
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage commercial risks and changes
  • Drive continuous improvement of commercial processes, tools, and practices
  • Leverage AI, digital tools, and data analytics to enhance commercial decision-making and efficiency.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred), Business or related disciplines
  • Ten plus (10+) years of experience in a similar position in the oil & gas industry
  • Extensive experience in offshore oil and gas organization and various functions within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage digital technologies and AI-enabled tools to support commercial decision-making, proposal development, market analysis, and business performance improvement
  • Excellent communication, strong selling, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Ability to analyze information and problem solve
  • Knowledgeable in Commercial (contractual), financial, and risk principles
  • Highly developed time management ability, to ensure deadlines are met
  • Ability to work as a Team Member as well as act as a Team Leader
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage audiences at all organizational levels
  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) and business intelligence tools
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and modern digital productivity platforms, including AI-assisted workplace technologies (e.g., Microsoft Copilot or equivalent).
