Job Description

Position General Summary

To lead and coordinate the shift maintenance team in ensuring the reliability, availability, and safe operation of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) and associated equipment. The role is responsible for supervising maintenance activities, responding to operational incidents, coordinating system recovery efforts, and ensuring maintenance works are carried out in accordance with established engineering standards and operational requirements.

The position serves as the shift technical leader and primary engineering focal point for the BHS Operations Control Centre (CCR), ensuring timely fault rectification and uninterrupted baggage handling operations.

Essential Position Functions

  1. Shift Leadership & Maintenance Coordination

Lead and supervise the BHS Maintenance shift team to ensure effective execution of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.

Allocate manpower, assign work priorities, and monitor maintenance activities during the shift.

Ensure adequate shift coverage and operational readiness of maintenance personnel.

Act as the Duty Engineer for all BHS-related maintenance matters during assigned shifts.

  1. System Reliability & Maintenance Execution

Coordinate and perform maintenance activities for conveyors, sortation systems, baggage screening interfaces, PLC systems, SCADA systems, early bagbing and rectification of equipment faults to minimise operational disruption.

Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring faults requiring long-term corrective action.

Verify quality and completeness of maintenance works performed by technicians and contractors.

  1. Operational Support & CCR Coordination
  • Serve as the primary engineering liaison with the BHS Operations Control Centre (CCR) during assigned shifts
  • Coordinate maintenance response to system alarms, equipment failures, and operational disruptions.
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to support operational decision-making.
  • Ensure timely communication and escalation of critical system issues to management and relevant stakeholders.

Support operational recovery activities and implementation of contingency plans during system disruptions.

  1. Incident Management & System Recovery
  • Lead fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and system recovery activities during equipment breakdowns.

Coordinate immediate response actions to restore system functionality and minimise baggage processing delays.

Escalate major failures to management, OEMs, vendors, and specialist contractors when necessary.

Conduct preliminary investigations into equipment failures and operational incidents.

  1. Maintenance Planning & Continuous Improvement

Support the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.

Review maintenance records and identify opportunities to improve asset reliability and maintenance effectiveness.

Recommend engineering improvements, equipment upgrades, and process enhancements.

Participate in testing, commissioning, and operational readiness activities for new systems and projects.

Key Challenges

Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of baggage handling systems and automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, electrical systems, motors, drives, sensors, and conveyor technologies.
  • Ability to lead maintenance teams during operational and emergency situations.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced 24/7 operational environment.

Relevant Industries

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in maintenance and engineering operations within airport systems, industrial automation, logistics systems, manufacturing, or material handling environments.

  • Willing to work on rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
