Technical Analyst/Senior Technical Analyst - Trade Surveillance

Job Purpose
Seeking a skilled Technical Analyst with strong KDB+/q expertise to support and maintain a Trade Surveillance application in a financial services environment. The role involves production support, KX platform administration, data analysis, and collaboration with compliance and development teams to ensure effective monitoring of market abuse scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
Application & Production Support:
- Provide L2/L3 support for Trade Surveillance applications built on KDB+/q
- Monitor batch surveillance jobs, ensuring timely and accurate execution
- Investigate and resolve production issues related to data indigestion, performance, or alerts
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
- Support weekend/on-call rotations as required
KX Platform Administration:
- Install, upgrade, and configure KX packages (including KDB+, KX Insights, and related components)
- Manage KDB processes, namespaces, and IPC connections
- Ensure platform stability, security, and performance best practices
KDB+/q & Data Analysis:
- Analyze large volumes of trade, order, and market data using q
- Develop, maintain, and optimize q scripts for data extraction, validation, and reconciliation
- Identify data quality issues and work with upstream/downstream teams to resolve them
- Tune KDB processes for performance and memory optimization
UI / UX Development:
- Develop and support KX-based UI dashboards for surveillance monitoring and operational reporting
- Work with KX UI frameworks (e.g., HTML/JS-based KX interfaces) to enhance usability and performance
- Customize user views, workflows, and visual components for compliance and operations users
- Support UI-related production issues and enhancements
Incident, Change & Release Management:
- Manage incidents, problems, and service requests in line with Bank’s processes
- Support application releases, configuration changes, and post-release validation
- Prepare operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with Compliance and Development teams
- Coordinate with KX/vendor support when required
- Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in financial services technology
Technical Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with KDB+/q
- Proven experience installing and managing KX packages and platforms
- Knowledge of UI / UX development and dashboard customization
- Solid understanding of capital markets data (trades, orders, quotes, reference data)
- Experience supporting Trade Surveillance or Market Abuse Monitoring systems
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments
- Experience with job scheduling tools (cron, Zena)
- Working knowledge of SQL and data reconciliation techniques
Domain Knowledge:
Knowledge of trade lifecycle and financial instruments (equities, derivatives, FX, fixed income)
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with vendor surveillance platforms (KX Surveillance, Communication Surveillance, Nasdaq SMARTS)
- Scripting experience (Python, Shell)
- Exposure to cloud deployments (AWS, Azure)
- Strong production support background in banking
